The former corporate secretary for Smith Bros. Entities, Hope Huwatschek, 84, died at Lasata Nursing Home, Cedarburg, where she had lived for several years.
A Port Washington native, Mrs. Huwatschek was born Nov. 3, 1906 to Capt. Delos and Delia Wassink Smith.
She was a 1927 graduate of the University of Wisconsin Whitewater. She taught in Freeport, Illinios and at the former Milwaukee Institute of Technology, now Milwaukee Area Technical College.
She served the family corporation as secretary from the early 1930s until her retirement in 1986. She and Earl Huwatschek D.D.S. were married at the Smith family home on Webster St. in June, 1938. Dr. Huwatschek died in 1981.
At the time of her death she held the distinction of having the most years of membership of any member of the First Congregational Church, Port Washington.
Mrs. Huwatschek was a 60 year member and a past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Ozaukee Chapter 147.
She was also a charter member of the Port Washington Woman's Club.
Active with the Girl Scouts, Mrs. Huwatschek was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Sept. 7, at First Congregational Church. The Rev. Jeffrey Suddendorf officiated.
Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mrs. Huwatschek is survived by two sons, Neil of Freemont, Calif, and Ned of Port Washington, and a daughter, Lenys Walden, Mequon.
She is also survived by five grandchildren.
The family has suggested memorials to First Congregational Church or the Order of Eastern Star Ozaukee Chapter 147.
